Diving under the Antarctic ice to get close to the much-feared leopard seal, photographer Paul Nicklen found an extraordinary new friend. Share his hilarious, passionate stories of the polar wonderlands, illustrated by glorious images of the animals who live on and under the ice. I really liked how he showed the images that national geographic took on all of the animals that live in the in the arctic and explained how the ice is disappearing. He says, "if we lose ice, we stand to lose an entire ecosystem." Which is true because the polar bear and all of those animals are associated to sea ice in some way and as it melts it is like "losing soil in a garden." He talks about the different types of animals such as the bohead whale or narwhal that feed on the copopods and arthropods that live underneath the ice and how they will dye out because of the loss of ice. I really liked how he went into talking about the leopard seal and how he was able to swim with them and the reaction they had towards him by trying to feed him penguins. It really shows how much the animals depend on the ice for so many different things and that we need to do what we can to help our environment and make sure that these species don't die out.
